Official Launch of WoMoz UP

Being a MADster, I always thought of having a Web Literacy event with the girls of Leelavati Shelter home, Charbagh, who do not even get to see a computer. I talked about this with the whole Mozilla UP Community and things were decided. As this event was being done, in association with Make A Difference, a lot of formalities has to be done too, in which The City Team Lead of MAD, Payal, helped alot. The whole planning was done, and the event date, 4th of October'2015 was fixed.

It was the first ever WoMoz event of MozUP and even The WoMoz UP Community was officially launched on this day. The event was a web literacy event in which we made all the girls aware of the uses of Computer and Internet. The event aimed at creating awareness about the Web, Mozilla and its mission.

The event started with a small icebreaker in which all were asked to introduce themselves with their name and aim in life. The great thing was to know their aims, from doctor to engineer, from singer to model, every girl was unique in her own way. This ice breaker made them more comfortable with us.

After the intro part, Vnisha showed them a picture of computer and its part, asking for a volunteer who can come forth and demonstrate all the parts of the computer. A girl excitedly came forward and explained everything perfectly. Vnisha, explained it again to all, to make them understand it in an even better way. Thereafter we divided all the 25 girls in a group of 5, and personally showed them the working of a laptop.

This activity actually took time as all the girls got engaged in typing on MS Word, making a slide, or drawing on Paint. Meanwhile, we distributed swags to all of them while Jyotsna was busy in capturing these beautiful memories.

At the end, we had a Logo designing activity, in which all the girls showed their creativity by designing logos of FSA, WoMoz, Firefox OS, Webmaker and Firefox Browser.

It was indeed a mass participation and the output was obviously tremendous. All the girls were so happy after learning so much and even asked us to come back again with such events.
