Day of the Girl with WoMoz UP

To make a change in the society, this small effort was done by the WoMoz of Uttar Pradesh. It all started when Vnisha suggested for an event to celebrate International Day of The Girl Child on 11 October'2015. I wasn't aware with this date as the Day of the Girl, so it made me to google the same. I took the responsibility of  the venue, and thought why not do this event with the girls of Mumtaz Shelter hime, Aminabad, Lucknow . WoMoz of UP went to the shelter home and met the girls. To know more about them, we first asked their names with their ambition. I still wonder why all the girls wanted to be a Doctor!

Vnisha then asked them, whats so special about 11 October. Every girl screamed -'Sunday'. That was indeed an obvious answer. But as Vnisha started telling them about the Day of the Girl, few girls said - Yes. It was told to them in their classes. Thereafter we told them about the objective of this day. We made them aware about all issues concerning gender inequality. We made them aware with the girl power in spite of the challenges that a girl face. Meanwhile, a sweet young girl came to me, and asked me to write her name on her hand with a pencil as she doesn't know how to write. I pretended to write her name on his hand while she promised me that she will learn how to write and will show me next time when i will come to meet her.

Thereafter, drawing activity was performed by those girls. They were asked to draw something based on the Theme of Day of the Girl-2015 : Empowering Adolescent Girls: Ending the Cycle of Violence. Girls from 2nd standard to 12th standard were indulged in drawing, the way they could. Sejal helped the girls during the drawing activity.

The event highlighted critical issues of concern for girl. During the whole event, Jyostna was engaged in capturing the pictures. We did get some awesome clicks. One of them has also been featured on Mozilla India.
